The political group DEBLOKE on Tuesday, November 3, denied that former President Michel Joseph Martelly, whom it presents as its presidential candidate, asked the United Nations to halt the operations of Salvadoran troops against armed groups in Haiti, Juno7 reported.

The accusation came from the Haitian network of anti-corruption journalists (RHAJAC), which said in a note published on November 2 that Martelly had sought to suspend the Salvadoran operations. In its reply, DEBLOKE said Martelly neither requested nor mandated any approach to the UN, including through its office in Haiti, BINUH, and called the accusations unsubstantiated.

DEBLOKE said it supports efforts to restore order and let the state regain control of its territory, including El Salvador's help, as long as operations respect national sovereignty, the law and the rights of civilians. It also condemned all forms of intimidation and political violence.

Juno7 noted that nothing it had seen independently established that the alleged approach to the UN took place.
