Employees of the national water and sanitation agency DINEPA burned tires outside its offices in Delmas 34 on Wednesday, November 4, saying they had not yet been paid, Vant Bèf Info reported. The protest made it hard for some staff to get into the building, and police officers were deployed to prevent it from escalating.

DINEPA's head of communications, Luckenson Auguste, denied any delay. Speaking by phone, he said the accounting department had deposited salaries into employees' accounts on Tuesday, November 3, and suggested the protest was meant to weaken the institution and hurt its image.

No figures were given on the number of protesters or the amounts at stake, and the reasons behind the mobilization remained unclear. DINEPA is in charge of drinking water projects across the country, including the rehabilitation of Bainet's water system that began in late October.
