The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark rate by a quarter point to a target range of 3.75% to 4% on September 16, its first increase since 2023. The decision was unanimous.
Officials said inflation remains elevated, and their projections left room for another increase this year. Higher rates mean costlier car loans, credit cards and mortgages for families, including Haitian American households sending money home.
