Cap-Haïtien will host the first Diaspora Fair on November 6 and 7. The event is organized by the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) with the Culture and Tourism ministries, under the patronage of the Prime Minister's office, HaitiLibre reported.
Tourism Minister Stéphanie Smith met on October 21 with Aucelie Rock, head of the tourist police (PoliTOUR), to strengthen security for visitors, starting with a larger PoliTOUR presence at Cap-Haïtien's international airport.
Beyond the fair, the ministry wants to extend the tourist police to the Grand Sud and the Northeast, improve agents' equipment and uniforms, and recruit 50 more officers to protect tourist sites.
The fair aims to bring Haitians abroad together with local actors to share culture, talent and economic opportunities and to build partnerships for the country's development. Minister of Haitians Living Abroad Katia Verdier has held planning meetings with the police, Cap-Haïtien city hall, customs and the Public Works Ministry.
