The UN Security Council is scheduled to vote on September 30 on whether to renew the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), the multinational mission created in 2025 with a 12-month mandate to help Haiti's police take back territory from armed groups.

Haiti's foreign minister, Raina Forbin, has called for the force to be renewed and fully deployed with the backing of the international community. The gap is large: the GSF is authorized for 5,550 personnel, but only about 1,000 are currently in Haiti.

The vote comes less than three months before the first round of Haiti's general elections, scheduled for December 13, which depend on security improving in the capital and the Artibonite.
