The health organization Zanmi Lasante, Partners In Health's sister organization in Haiti, has denounced significant material damage to its facilities in Santo, in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac, Le Nouvelliste reported on Wednesday, November 4. The damage followed recent security incidents in the area.
Zanmi Lasante said the affected infrastructure is essential to its medical and humanitarian work and called for health facilities and resources to be protected. It gave no estimate of the damage.
The Plaine du Cul-de-Sac, in the commune of Croix-des-Bouquets, has been the scene of heavy fighting in recent days. The Haitian police and the Gang Suppression Force launched a joint operation there on November 2, and El Salvador has deployed troops in the area to search for four of its soldiers who went missing near Santo on October 18.
