Royal Caribbean International has extended the suspension of its cruise calls at Labadee, on Haiti's north coast, until at least April 2028, HaitiLibre reported on Sunday, November 1.

It is the third time the cruise line has extended its moratorium. Royal Caribbean and other major cruise companies stopped calling at Labadee in 2025, as insecurity and gang violence in the country reached a peak.

The company has begun notifying passengers whose cruises included a stop in Labadee. Dozens of sailings on nine ships are affected, including Adventure of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas, and pre-booked shore excursions will be refunded automatically, according to HaitiLibre.

Sam Vigersky, a public policy expert at the Council on Foreign Relations, told Reuters that Haiti's overall security situation was moving toward escalation rather than stabilization, HaitiLibre noted.

Labadee, a private beach area near Cap-Haïtien leased by Royal Caribbean, was for decades the main way foreign tourists visited Haiti, and many nearby residents depended on the ships for their income.
