An artificial lake on the Cavaillon River could open “new prospects for sport, water recreation and ecotourism in southern Haiti,” argues an article by Bony Eugène Georges published by Le National on November 4. The idea is modeled on the Morse Reservoir in Indiana, in the United States.

The piece describes a multipurpose reservoir that could host water sports and leisure, attract visitors, irrigate farmland, help manage water resources and reduce the risk of some floods. It argues that well-planned water infrastructure can store water for dry periods while giving communities space for recreation.

It is a proposal, not an approved or funded project: the published text gives no size, cost or timeline. The South was among the departments hit hardest by flooding in late October, which has renewed debate about water management in the region.
