In Jérémie, several days of heavy rain have left the low-lying Lasaline neighborhood in a worrying state, Le Nouvelliste reported on October 28. Water entered many homes, and paths are covered with water and mud, making them hard to cross for families who already live in precarious conditions.
Lasaline sits on low ground near a river and suffers from poor planning, which makes it one of the areas most exposed to flooding in the Grand'Anse capital whenever heavy rain falls.
In the Nippes department, the commune of Barradères faced serious flooding after the latest storms, HaitiLibre reported. Several neighborhoods were under water, homes were damaged and residents called on the authorities to assess the damage and help affected families.
Farther west in Grand'Anse, the reshaping of the Congo ravine in Corail, carried out by the Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) with the operator CECI, helped protect residents, roads and property during the rains, HaitiLibre said.
