Haiti's Ministry of National Education (MENFP) held a workshop in Pétion-Ville to present and test web applications that will digitize the accreditation of private schools, HaitiLibre reported on Monday, October 19.

The tools cover the three stages of accreditation: authorization to open, the operating permit and the accreditation certificate. Staff from the ministry's technical directorates, specialized units and departmental education offices tested the modules and gave feedback.

Haiti has more than 18,000 schools and more than 4 million students, and non-public schools hold a dominant place, said Professor Cénatus Pierre, coordinator of the ministry's general directorate. The project is supported by UNOPS, the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank.

Walex Pierre, director of private school accreditation and partnerships, said the plan is to issue e-permits to 90% of the schools listed in the Education Management Information System by June 2027, with the full accreditation tool in place by June 2028.
