President Donald Trump named Haiti among what he called “terror-infested countries” at a campaign rally in Perry, Georgia, on Saturday, October 24, Reuters reported. Attacking Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, he said Ossoff had sponsored a bill to bring “armies of migrants” from Libya, Yemen, Haiti and Somalia.

Trump then used the phrase “shithouse countries,” a version of the insult he was reported to have used about Haiti and African nations at a White House meeting in January 2018, Reuters and Juno7 reported. He denied it at the time, but Juno7 notes that he acknowledged the words at a Pennsylvania rally in December 2025.

According to Juno7, the bill he criticized would grant Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Haitians already living in the United States, shielding them from deportation and allowing them to work. It would not admit new migrants.

Libya's foreign ministry summoned the U.S. chargé d'affaires on Sunday to protest the “offensive” remarks, and Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah said Libyans' dignity should not become a subject of election debates. Trump later wrote on Truth Social that Libyans are “proud, resilient, hospitable,” Reuters reported.

Juno7 reported no reaction from the Haitian government. Haiti, Libya, Somalia and Yemen are among the countries whose nationals face a U.S. entry suspension, with some exceptions.
