A man has admitted to killing his partner, the young nurse Pharana Ruth Love Edmel, whose body was found on Saturday, October 31, in Bézin, in the commune of Petite-Rivière-de-Nippes, the Haitian National Police said in a statement on Wednesday, November 4, Vant Bèf Info reported. Le Nouvelliste also reported the killing.
According to the police, the suspect, Fedner Lumene, made the admission while being questioned by the departmental judicial police (SDPJ) and is being held for the investigation and court proceedings. Police said he told investigators the killing followed an argument; the couple had been together for about nine years.
The case has renewed concern about violence against women. Vant Bèf Info noted that the UN recorded more than 8,000 incidents of gender-based violence in Haiti in 2025, many of them sexual violence, while protection services and access to justice remain limited.
