The Brasserie nationale d'Haïti (BRANA), the brewery owned by the Heineken group, has temporarily suspended its operations because of the worsening security situation, Vant Bèf Info reported on Wednesday, November 4. The company said the decision was taken to protect its staff.

In an internal note, management asked employees to stay home until further notice, follow the instructions of the company's security service and keep their phones and email within reach for new messages. Some operations the company considers essential will continue, possibly with a reduced team, depending on how conditions change.

The note gives no date for a return to normal and does not say how many workers are affected. The suspension adds to a long list of businesses slowed or stopped by armed violence, which restricts movement and puts workers at risk on their way to and from work.
