Haiti's foreign ministry has summoned the Dominican ambassador in Port-au-Prince, Faruk Miguel, to discuss reports of Dominican army incursions into Haitian territory, according to a ministry document dated October 26 and reported by HaitiLibre. The meeting was set for Thursday, October 29, at noon at the ministry.
The letter refers to “questions of great interest” for both countries, in particular information about incursions by the Dominican army. It does not say whether the alleged incursions were verified, and gives no dates, places or military units, HaitiLibre noted.
The summons comes as the Dominican Republic strengthens security on its border. Santo Domingo recently sent two additional battalions to the southern border area, along with armored vehicles, heavy equipment, artillery, drones and other surveillance means, citing the evolution of security operations in Haiti.
