Nine people were killed on Sunday, November 1, when a private jet crashed near homes in Palm Beach County, Florida, Juno7 reported, citing U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

The Learjet 60 went down at about 12:50 p.m. in the Military Trail area, between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. It had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was bound for North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said no one on the ground was hurt.

About 600 people were evacuated from a nearby mobile home community, and Military Trail was closed in both directions. Flight-tracking data cited by Juno7 showed a very rapid descent before transmissions stopped; videos from nearby showed the plane diving and exploding on impact.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation with support from the Federal Aviation Administration. No official cause had been determined, and the victims had not been identified.
