Police in the Nippes arrested a man in Miragoâne on Sunday, November 1, after he admitted to killing his partner, Gazette Haïti reported.

Fedner Lumène is suspected of killing Pharana Ruth-Love Edmël on Saturday, October 31, at around 10 a.m. in Bezén, on the road to Petite-Rivière in Miragoâne. During questioning he said he had killed her and thrown her body into the sea, according to the report. He told investigators he suspected her of infidelity, a claim that rests only on his own statements.

Investigators who examined his phone reportedly found threatening messages sent to the victim, including one in which he wrote that he would kill her with his own hands. An agent of the departmental judicial police (SDPJ) of the Nippes cited the threat in a video that circulated widely on social media.

The suspect is in the custody of the Nippes SDPJ for the investigation and remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
