The national water authority, DINEPA, has launched work to rehabilitate the drinking water system in Bainet, in the Southeast department, a project meant to eventually serve more than 10,000 residents, Rezo Nòdwès reported on October 29.

DINEPA Director General Théophil Ostinvil led the launch ceremony on Wednesday with Philippe Eliscar, director of the regional office OREPA-Sud. Local officials attended, including vice-delegate Pierre Jean Rémy and the president of Bainet's municipal commission, Victor Dominique Clive Mc Calla.

The work is funded by the World Bank and is expected to take 15 months. It was contracted to the firms BECAG, BECOCI and ACoR, with supervision by the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

The report did not give the cost of the project.
