A 3-year-old soccer player from central Florida, whose father is of Haitian descent according to Rezo Nòdwès, has been offered free training after a dispute with a youth league went viral. Former U.S. national team striker Eddie Johnson said his EJE7 Soccer Academy in Orlando will train Nevada Pierre starting in January, WFTV reported.

The boy's parents, Martasia Griffin and Don Pierre, say an i9 Sports program in Winter Park removed him because he was too good, after he scored several goals. League officials reportedly raised concerns that he was pushing other players, which the parents dispute.

In late October, a league official called Winter Park police to Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Police said no one was arrested or forced to leave and called it a civil matter. i9 Sports said the call “was not related to the child” but to disruptive adults. Body-camera video of the scene was widely shared.

Johnson said the case reflected problems in American youth soccer, including gatekeeping and “profiling especially against people of color.” Rezo Nòdwès, citing The Breakfast Club and TheGrio, also reported plans for a trip to Spain in December linked to Roc Nation Sports, which had not been confirmed.
