Dominican President Luis Abinader says he has spoken with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele to coordinate logistical and intelligence support for the operations against armed groups in Haiti, HaitiLibre reported on Monday, November 2.
Abinader said the Dominican Republic is in contact with the Gang Suppression Force and is ready to share intelligence with the Salvadoran troops. He gave no details on the scope of that cooperation or on what means his country would provide, and he did not announce any direct role for Dominican soldiers in Haiti.
He said the border had been considerably reinforced, especially in the south where gangs operate, with more soldiers, armored vehicles and round-the-clock surveillance by planes and drones. The Dominican Republic has designated Haitian gangs as terrorist organizations, and Abinader warned that they would have “a very, very bad time” if they came near the border.
So far, he said, the gangs had not approached the border, and there was no sign that the fighting in Haiti was pushing more people to try to cross into the Dominican Republic.
