The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince issued a security alert on Saturday, October 31, warning U.S. citizens of ongoing security operations near the Tabarre bridge, where gunfire has been reported.

The embassy, which is located in Tabarre, advised citizens to avoid the area, keep a low profile, stay aware of their surroundings and follow local media for updates.

The alert comes as fighting intensifies northeast of the capital. Doctors Without Borders says roads and bridges are blocked and that some patients with gunshot wounds have taken hours to reach its hospitals in Tabarre and Cité Soleil. The State Department keeps Haiti at Level 4, “Do Not Travel.”
