The Haitian Sports Academy (ACASH), founded on July 17, 2017, by Louis Robert Bassiany, aims to train both athletes and responsible citizens, combining sport with education, human rights and sustainable development, Le National reported on October 29.

Its roots go back to October 17, 2006, at the Lycée Charlemagne Péralte in Saint-Michel-de-l'Attalaye, in the Artibonite, where Bassiany and his collaborators started the town's first basketball activities. That effort led to the Délégation Scolaire d'Haïti and the Maga Stars Club, whose teams met at the Bébé Grandit premises on Rue Guerrier. Club Magnum and Radio Magnum FM gave the organizers airtime to promote sport and education.

With the support of more than 14 schools, the organizers held a five-on-five basketball tournament won by the Bon Berger team, known as the Styler's, which then sought recognition from the Haitian Basketball Federation. Several local leaders backed the effort.

Despite money problems and insecurity, the academy says it wants to raise a new generation able to serve Haiti. Le National's profile is signed by Bony Eugène Georges; the article says the founder works with Bony Georges, a former director of the Centre Sport pour l'Espoir Haïti.
