More than 7,500 candidates have registered so far for Haiti's coming elections, according to preliminary figures on the Provisional Electoral Council's (CEP) public dashboard, updated on the morning of Friday, October 30. Online registration is due to close on October 31.
The dashboard counts 7,512 candidates: 19 for president, 377 for the Senate and 1,314 for the Chamber of Deputies, plus 1,823 for mayor, 2,454 for CASEC and 1,525 for ASEC in the municipal and local races.
The South has the most candidates (1,248), followed by the West (1,182) and the North (936). The South-East counts 824, the Artibonite 699, the North-West 638 and the Grand'Anse 635. The Nippes (488), the Centre (444) and the North-East (399) have the fewest.
The CEP stresses that the figures are preliminary and that the official list will be published only after verification. Some files have already been ruled inadmissible for missing documents. Under the revised calendar, the first round of the presidential and legislative elections is set for July 18, 2027.
