Bishop Jean-Pierre Sander Louis-Jean was installed as head of the Catholic Diocese of Fort-Liberté on Saturday, October 31, during a Mass at Saint-Joseph Cathedral, iciHaiti reported.
Foreign Affairs Minister Raina Forbin attended the ceremony, along with officials from the ministry in charge of religious affairs, according to iciHaiti.
The Apostolic Nunciature in Haiti announced on September 1 that Pope Leo XIV had named Louis-Jean, until then an auxiliary bishop of Port-au-Prince, to lead the diocese in the Northeast. He succeeds Bishop Quesnel Alphonse, who had been leading the diocese, Le Nouvelliste reported.
Born in Jérémie in 1967 and ordained a priest in 1996, Louis-Jean served in the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince, including as pastor of Saint-Pierre parish in Pétion-Ville, according to iciHaiti.
When the appointment was announced, the nunciature asked priests, men and women religious and lay faithful to welcome the decision “in a spirit of prayer, faith and hope.”
