The party Les Engagés pour le Développement (EDE) welcomed the electoral council's new calendar on Friday, October 30, calling it a step toward restoring democratic and constitutional order in Haiti, Juno7 reported.
In a statement, the party warned against a new post-election crisis and called for the credibility of the vote to be protected. It asked the government to make restoring security across the country a priority so the elections can take place.
EDE also urged Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to quickly open talks with the main political actors to form a government able to face the security and political challenges, and asked the Provisional Electoral Council to remain strictly neutral and transparent and to treat all competitors equally.
The party called on other parties to join the process and said it intends to run candidates at every level. The calendar sets the first round of presidential and legislative elections for July 18, 2027.
