Germany has flown more than 600 tonnes of equipment from Bangladesh to Haiti for the Gang Suppression Force, Gazette Haiti and Le Nouvelliste reported on Friday, October 30. The cargo was carried by the air transport of the Bundeswehr, Germany's armed forces.
In mid-August, Berlin had said it would mobilize Bundeswehr aircraft to move equipment for the force's contingents. The shipment is meant to support the deployment of the mission's units and strengthen their capabilities on the ground. The reports did not detail the type of equipment.
The U.S. Embassy in Haiti thanked the German government for its “generous contributions” to the force, and U.S. official Juan Pablo Segura stressed on X the importance of the logistical support for security and stability in Haiti.
The airlift comes as new Salvadoran contingents arrive to reinforce the international force, while the search continues for Salvadoran soldiers reported missing after an ambush on October 18.
