The Milwaukee Brewers won the first World Series title in their 57-year history on Wednesday, October 28, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 at Tropicana Field to take the series four games to one, Yahoo Sports reported.

Cooper Pratt drove in the first run with a single in the second inning, and Pratt and David Hamilton added runs in the fifth and sixth. Tampa Bay's only run came on a Chandler Simpson double in the ninth.

Starter Jacob Misiorowski threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, before leaving with calf cramps. JoJo Romero, Abner Uribe and closer Trevor Megill finished the game, Megill with a two-inning save. Catcher William Contreras was named World Series MVP after going 8-for-21 with four RBI.

Milwaukee went 11-2 in the postseason, including eight straight wins from Game 4 of the division series through Game 3 of the World Series, tying a postseason record. The Rays avoided a sweep by winning Game 4 in 12 innings.

The Padres, Rockies, Mariners and Rays are now the only Major League teams that have never won a title. The 2027 season, scheduled to open March 24, could be delayed by a labor dispute between owners and players, Yahoo Sports noted.
