With the U.S. midterm elections set for Tuesday, November 3, The Haitian Times has listed key Florida races for Haitian Americans, about 870,000 of whom live in the state, more than half of the national total, according to the newspaper.

In the open race for governor, Republican Byron Donalds, endorsed by President Trump, faces Democrat David Jolly, a former Republican congressman. In the U.S. House race for Florida's 24th District, which includes Little Haiti, Miami Gardens and North Miami, Democrat Oliver Gilbert III, who beat Haitian American candidates Jean Monestime and Rudolph Moise in the August primary, faces Republican Te Mayonna Brown to succeed the retiring Frederica Wilson.

Two local races could put Haitian-born women in office. In a runoff for the Miami-Dade School Board's District 1, educator Linda Cothière faces Katrina Wilson. In Coral Springs, nurse Marly Métayer is running for the city commission seat once held by her daughter, Vice Mayor Nancy Métayer, who was found dead at her home on April 1, 2026.

The newspaper noted that a governor cannot restore Temporary Protected Status on their own, since TPS is a federal program.
