Police in Anse-à-Pitres, in the Southeast department on the Dominican border, arrested a 26-year-old man on the night of October 27 after finding a 13-year-old girl held in a house, Le Nouvelliste reported.

According to the girl's statement, the suspect, identified by police as Jean Sinord Charles, met her in Thiotte, took her to Anse-à-Pitres and kept her there against her will. She told police that he sexually abused her. The police say he admitted the facts.

He is being held at the local police station pending judicial proceedings. He is presumed innocent until a court rules.
