Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on Wednesday, October 28, called on the authorities and all parties involved in armed clashes in Port-au-Prince to spare civilians, Le Nouvelliste reported.

In a statement, the medical charity also asked that all wounded and sick people be guaranteed access to health facilities, without distinction. It said the fighting had intensified over the past ten days.

The escalation followed the October 18 attack on a Gang Suppression Force vehicle in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac, after which several members of the force went missing. The force launched search operations the following week to find four missing Salvadorans, with support from Salvadoran troops.

MSF's head of mission in Haiti, Davina Hayles, told the Associated Press she was very concerned about the surge of violence in densely populated neighborhoods of the capital.
