Only 36 of the 105 accredited political organizations have registered the 30,000 members required by the electoral decree, Le Nouvelliste reported on October 23. Registration opened on August 20 on the electoral council's (CEP) digital platform.
More than two months later, the paper wrote, reaching that number remains hard, if not impossible, for most accredited parties. The CEP has not yet published the list of organizations that comply. Le Nouvelliste also reported that more than 27 million fraud attempts were detected during registration.
The same day, former CEP vice president Carlos Hercule called for an evaluation of the electoral legal framework to find provisions that could block the process and lead to a postponement. He pointed to inconsistencies in the new decree and said that publishing an electoral calendar would not, on its own, guarantee the vote.
