Haiti has been elected to chair the Administrative and Financial Commission of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) for one year, the Embassy of Haiti in France announced on Thursday, October 22, Le Nouvelliste reported.

The vote took place during the 134th session of the Permanent Council of La Francophonie, the body that governs the OIF.

Together with the other members of the commission, Haiti will review the organization's budget forecasts, monitor how the budget is spent and make sure its financial rules are respected.

The news comes a few days after five young Haitian journalists won Francophonie awards.
