The Dominican Republic's General Directorate of Migration (DGM) expelled 4,319 Haitians through official border crossings between Friday, October 16, and Sunday, October 18, iciHaiti reported.
Most detentions were made in the provinces of Dajabón, Santo Domingo, Elías Piña, Valverde and Pedernales. On Saturday, October 17, an operation at the Mercado Nuevo on Duarte Avenue in Santo Domingo led to the detention of 73 people who could not show proof of legal residence. Raids also took place in Invivienda, Los Mina, El Almirante and Villa Mella.
Inspectors also visited farms and agricultural projects in El Seibo, Montecristi, Dajabón, Barahona and San Juan de la Maguana on October 15 and 16 and identified nearly 700 Haitians with irregular migration status.
