The Haitian Creole Academy (Akademi Kreyòl Ayisyen, AKA) is holding a series of activities for Creole Language and Culture Month, to promote Kreyòl as Haitians' mother tongue and encourage its use in schools, Le Nouvelliste reported.

The academy's communications director, Pierre-Antoine Cherilin, presented this year's program on Radio Magik 9's “Panel Magik” show on Thursday, October 22. He stressed the need to give Creole a more important place in Haitian society.

This year's theme opens with the words “Lang kreyòl: Fòs, Kreyasyon ak…” (“Creole language: strength, creation and…”). The academy says it wants to bring the language closer to communities.
