About 7,250 people from 1,637 households have been forced from their homes by armed violence in Petite-Rivière de l'Artibonite since October 19, according to figures from the International Organization for Migration's Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), reported by Le Nouvelliste on October 23.
The hardest-hit areas are Bas Coursin 2 and the locality of L'Amour, the DTM said.
Six in ten of the displaced are still in Petite-Rivière, while 40% have moved to the neighboring commune of Verrettes. Most of them, 86%, are staying with host families; the other 14% are on two sites that already existed.
The DTM said it is continuing to follow the situation. The Artibonite is one of three departments, along with the West and the Centre, under a state of emergency until December 18.
