Actress and singer Nehémie Bastien is leading a theater workshop in Les Cayes, in Haiti's South department, through October 14.

Bastien played the lead role in “Freda,” the 2021 film by Gessica Généus that was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Her own work brings together theater, music and film, and explores freedom and the lives of women.

In the workshop, participants take an active part and discover the pleasure of performing together, the news site HaitiLibre reported.

It is a small piece of good news from the provinces at a difficult time. Gessica Généus won Best Film in Rome last month for her new feature, “Marie Madeleine,” a sign that Haitian cinema and theater keep producing talent despite the crisis.
