Sunrise Airways, the Haitian airline, will start flying between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Cap-Haïtien on November 16, with two flights a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.

The airline announced the route on Tuesday, October 13. It is moving its New York operations to JFK and will stop flying from Newark Liberty International Airport on October 20.

“New York is a key city for the Haitian diaspora looking to maintain ties with their homeland,” said Sunrise Airways chief executive Gary Stone.

From Cap-Haïtien, passengers can connect to Les Cayes, Port-au-Prince and other Caribbean destinations on the airline's network.

To mark the launch, the airline is offering 25% off the base fare with the code HELLOJFK for bookings made from October 13 to 16, for travel between November 16 and December 15. Taxes and fees are not discounted, and seats are limited.

The announcement adds to a busy season for the North. American Airlines plans to start daily Miami–Cap-Haïtien flights on November 1. The U.S. State Department still advises Americans not to travel to Haiti.
