The National Airport Authority (AAN) plans to keep developing Antoine-Simon International Airport in Les Cayes, with work to improve infrastructure, strengthen security and increase passenger capacity, director general José Bernard Mathias Schettini announced on October 19, Le Nouvelliste reported.

The runway now measures 1,873 meters long and 25 meters wide, but operational constraints limit flights to about 30 passengers out of a theoretical capacity of 50, HaitiLibre reported. The AAN wants to extend it to 1,984 meters and widen it to 35 meters, enough for planes carrying more than 100 passengers.

Spaces for international travelers, including customs and immigration, are also planned. Schettini said the goal is for the airport to gradually offer modern facilities and services comparable to those of Cap-Haïtien's international airport.
