The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Monday, October 19, and will meet the Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series.
Junior Caminero and Yandy Díaz each hit two-run homers, Richie Palacios added a two-run double, and Freddy Peralta allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings at Tropicana Field. Peralta was named the series MVP. The Rays had trailed 1-0 and 2-1 before winning three straight games.
“We got one more bite!” said Rays manager Kevin Cash. “I couldn't be more proud of our group,” said Guardians manager Stephen Vogt. Cleveland's World Series drought now stretches to 78 years.
It is the Rays' third World Series in 29 seasons. Milwaukee swept the Los Angeles Dodgers to reach its first since 1982. Neither franchise has ever won the title, so one will win its first.
Game 1 is on Friday, October 23, at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
