Léogâne Mayor Roberson Mimy and the town's director of cultural affairs, Ansky Hilaire, are visiting Saint-Denis, near Paris, for the “Cultures Solidaires” event, which began on October 17.

They were invited by the Haitian Social Movement (MOSHA), whose president, Jean Durand, welcomed them along with Djeananhe Maculov Mentor, a student from Léogâne who lives in France.

The program includes visits to historical sites linked to Haiti's history and to cultural institutions, as well as meetings with potential partners, cultural associations and Haitian and French organizations.

The town hall says it hopes to build cultural and institutional ties and partnerships that benefit Léogâne, the “City of Anacaona,” named for the Taíno queen who ruled the region before the Spanish conquest.
