Haiti's Ministry of Commerce and Industry has launched a regional caravan that aims to help at least 5,000 businesses across all 10 departments register and enter the formal economy by November.
Commerce Minister James Monazard launched the pilot program on Friday, October 16, at the Hotel Montana in Pétion-Ville, under the patronage of the prime minister's office. He said the effort responds to a decline in the number of formally registered businesses.
The caravan will help entrepreneurs register trade names and obtain professional identification cards, simplifying paperwork for small and informal businesses, especially in the provinces.
The ministry's departmental offices will receive computer equipment to process applications faster, said Director General Panel Paulémont. The ministry launched an online business registration platform at the end of 2024.
The program is supported by the Ministry of Planning.
