Violence in Haiti's Centre department, including the 2025 attacks on Mirebalais and Saut-d'Eau, has displaced about 147,000 people toward communes such as Hinche, Belladère and Maïssade, according to IOM figures. Many families sheltered in overcrowded schools.
A program launched on June 5 by IOM with Haiti's civil protection authorities and U.S. Embassy support moved more than 350 families from two Hinche school sites to a new transit center with shelters, sanitation, water tanks and solar lighting. More than 1,000 students were able to return to their classrooms by September.
