Work has begun to build and repair the drinking water systems of Carice, in Haiti's Northeast, and nearby localities.

Public Works Minister Joseph Pierre Louis attended the groundbreaking on Saturday, October 10, with Théophil Ostinvil, director general of the national water and sanitation agency DINEPA, regional water officials and local authorities.

The project is paid for entirely by the national treasury through the Public Investment Program. It will serve Carice and the localities of Grosse-Roche, Corosse and Pont-Sable.

Solar panels will be installed so that the pumps and distribution system can run on their own and without interruption.

The minister urged residents to respect land-use rules along roads and to take care of the new installations once they are finished, so that the communities keep lasting access to clean water.
