This will be Haiti's first national vote since 2016. Voters will choose a president, senators and deputies after years without elected national leaders.
Security is the biggest challenge. Gangs control much of Port-au-Prince and the Artibonite, and on September 29 the UN Security Council renewed the Gang Suppression Force for six months, through March 31, 2027. The OAS has urged authorities to bar candidates tied to armed groups.
Turnout is the other worry: four weeks before the deadline, fewer than 7% of voters had registered.
