Rice farmers in Corail, in the Grand'Anse, have received two power tillers from the Ministry of Agriculture, and growers in the commune of Roseaux have a new center for processing maize.

The tillers went to the Corail Irrigators Association, part of a network of farmer organizations in the Grand'Anse. They were donated under the Resilient Agriculture for Food Security Project (PARSA), which is funded by the World Bank and carried out with the World Food Programme.

Members of the association said the machines matter most to farmers in Campêche, for preparing soil and working rice paddies. Lucmane Casimir, a member, said suitable equipment is important to support farming in the community. Farmers expect to cultivate more plots and gradually raise their yields.

In Roseaux, the ministry handed over a maize processing center to the organization “Bondye Bay” in Grand-Vincent. It has a processing room, a storage area, a drying area and toilets.

The center's new mill can process between 700 and 1,200 kilograms of grain an hour and can handle maize, rice and sorghum.

The same project recently rebuilt stretches of rural road in Beaumont and Pestel, also in the Grand'Anse.
