A magnitude 4.1 earthquake shook the Grand'Anse on the evening of Thursday, October 8. Civil Protection has reported no deaths, injuries or damage.

The quake was recorded at 8:59 p.m. Its epicenter was at sea, about 10 kilometers northwest of Corail, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

People felt the tremor, and it caused worry and some panic, the news site HaitiLibre reported.

The southern peninsula sits on an active fault system. A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck the region in August 2021 and killed more than 2,200 people, mostly in the South, the Grand'Anse and the Nippes.

If you feel an earthquake, drop to the ground, take cover under sturdy furniture and hold on until the shaking stops. Stay away from walls and anything that can fall. Afterward, go outside to an open area and follow instructions from Civil Protection.
