The Milwaukee Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the National League pennant and will play in the World Series for the first time since 1982.
Milwaukee completed the four-game sweep on Thursday, October 16, at Dodger Stadium, coming back from a 4-0 deficit after Shohei Ohtani's three-run homer to win 6-4. Garrett Mitchell hit the go-ahead home run in the sixth inning, and David Hamilton added an insurance homer in the ninth. Jake Bauers was named the series MVP.
“They may have a bunch of Hall of Famers, but we've got a bunch of gamers,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said. “At the end of the day, we got beat,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.
It is Milwaukee's first National League pennant. The franchise's only previous World Series, in 1982, came when it played in the American League; it lost in seven games to St. Louis.
In the American League, the Tampa Bay Rays lead the Cleveland Guardians three games to two after Drew Rasmussen allowed one run over seven innings in a 3-1 win in Game 5 on Sunday. Game 6 is Monday at Tropicana Field.
The World Series opens on Friday, October 23, at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
