Concacaf has postponed the return leg of the Caribbean Cup semifinal between Haiti's Violette AC and Jamaica's Portmore United after the Dominican Republic refused to let a Haitian club play in its stadiums.
The match had been scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, at the Cibao FC stadium in Santiago. Concacaf moved it to the week of October 26 and said the date, time and venue would be announced in the coming days.
Dominican Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz reiterated on Sunday that Haitian teams, national or club, may not play in Dominican sports facilities. The measure dates from crowd trouble at Haiti's 4-1 win over the Dominican Republic on October 1, and President Luis Abinader backed it. The Dominican Football Federation's president, José Francisco Deschamps, said the federation would comply with the government's decision.
Earlier this month, the minister had said Haiti could still play in the country as a visiting team. The new statement extends the ban to all Haitian teams.
Violette AC made history in September as the first Haitian club to top a Caribbean Cup group. Like Haiti's national teams, it cannot host matches at home because of insecurity in Port-au-Prince.
