A powerful nor'easter lashed the U.S. East Coast from Washington, D.C., to Maine this weekend, knocking out power to more than 130,000 customers and forcing airlines to cancel more than 400 flights.

The worst outages were in New York state, including Long Island, closest to the center of the storm, according to PowerOutage.us. Winds gusted as high as 81 mph at Montauk Point on the eastern tip of Long Island.

By Saturday night, about 425 flights had been canceled and 3,016 delayed, according to FlightAware. Hundreds of flights were scrapped at Boston Logan International Airport, along with most flights to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

In Brooklyn, Leighton Brown, a 56-year-old New York City Housing Authority employee, was killed Saturday when a tree fell on him in a parking lot at 700 Euclid Avenue in East New York. Police said it was not yet clear whether the wind brought the tree down. Later that day, four people suffered minor injuries when another tree fell near Kelly Park Playground in Homecrest.

The National Weather Service said the storm will keep bringing coastal flooding, rip currents, strong gusts and heavy rain to the Mid-Atlantic and New England through Monday. Residents should stay away from downed lines, avoid flooded roads and check on elderly neighbors.
